IAS Exam in 2013-2014 will have a different pattern as compared to the earlier IAS Exams conducted by UPSC. UPSC conducts IAS exams every year on PAN India basis and IAS 2013-2014 Exam will feature the new CSAT syllabus introduced in 2011. Please note that IAS Exam 2012 will be conducted in 3 stages: Stage 1, Prelims, Stage 2 Mains, and Stage 3, Interview (Personality Test). Candidates appearing in IAS Prelims 2012 will go through the Exam that shall be objective in nature, the IAS mains Exam 2012 will be a written exam and finally personality test & interview will be verbal.

To reach the final stage of Interview and Personality test in IAS 2013-2014 you need to first qualify the IAS prelims & IAS Mains exam. You will be called for the final interview and personality test purely based on scores of the two stages.

The IAS 2012 Exam notification shall also appear in the official website of UPSC in the first week of February 2012. Please check the website for IAS 2012 notification.

Now you can also apply online for IAS 2013-2014 Exam. Online Application forms for IAS 2013-2014 shall be available after the notification at the website of UPSC. You can also get the IAS application forms at the Head Post Offices in all the cities in India.

The 2013-2014 IAS Prelims Exam Pattern

The IAS Prelims 2013-2014 Exam shall be objective in nature and it will comprise of 2 papers compulsory to all.

IAS 2013-2014 Prelims Exam will carry negative for wrong answers

The Prelims exam 2012 shall be of 200 marks each and 2 hours in duration.

Please note that if you appear for only one paper and misses the second your attempt is counted. But if you apply but do not appear for the prelims then the attempt is not counted.

IAS 2013-2014 Prelims Syllabus

Syllabus IAS 2012 (Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs

Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian national movement
Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and governance constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
Economic and social development sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization
General science.

IAS Prelims Syllabus (Paper II) (200 marks) Duration : Two hrs

Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. Class X level)
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)
Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
