The University of Delhi, started with three colleges and 750 students in 1922 now is one of the largest institutions in India for higher studies. In fact DU is one of the largest institutions in the world. However today University of Delhi comprise16 faculties, 86 departments,  77 colleges and a few other recognized institutes with around 150,000 regular students and more than 250,000 students in the distance learning stream.
